Local Bird at Chicken Farm for Dog Park

A dog park is being proposed for San Angelo and fundraising efforts are underway.

On Saturday, July 4, at the Chicken Farm Art Center, I’ll be selling copies of my new book of poetry, Local Bird, with proceeds going toward San Angelo’s forthcoming dog park.

If you’ve read my poems or purchased Local Bird already, you know I frequently write about our dogs Clementine and Huckleberry.

And here’s my poem “Dog” that will be appearing in the 2016 edition of Texas Poetry Calendar from Dos Gatos Press.

Marie-Clare and I have encountered pretty wonderful dog parks in Houston and Georgetown, Texas, and we think San Angelo dog owners and their dogs certainly deserve a dog park, too.

According to a recent item in the San Angelo Standard Times, “The San Angelo City Council gave city staff the go-ahead to proceed with plans and fundraising efforts to build a community dog park. Community members and city leaders have raised about $60,000 — $15,000 of which is a pledge — toward a $75,000 goal before the item goes back before the council.”

Here is a link to the burgeoning Facebook page for the San Angelo Dog Park Community.

So come see me at the Chicken Farm Art Center on Saturday, July 4, buy a copy of Local Bird, and make a contribution to a new playground for pups in our fair city.
